2011 – An Anniversary Year for Glazers

This year, we are proud to be celebrating not one, but two anniversaries.

Glazers Web Page of the Month - Tax and Business Calendar

As we are at the beginning of a new year, we thought it appropriate to feature our Tax and Business Calendar as our web page of the month for January. Click here to view it.

To access it from our home page www.glazers.co.uk , take the following path: Online Tools - Tax and Business Calendar.

You can also find this table in our booklet and online guide 'Starting up in Business'

The tax and business calendar is a quick reference to key dates in the year for filing accounts and tax returns and making tax payments. We hope you find it a useful tool.

Final Call for Tax Returns

Among the earliest notable dates for the new year calendar is the 31st January deadline for filing personal tax returns online. If you haven't yet provided us with your information, now is the time to act! We will do our best to meet the deadline in all cases. The sooner we receive everything, the more chance there is that we can turn the work around in good time.

New 20% VAT Rate - Don't forget to charge it !

We're sure you know that the standard rate of VAT increased to 20% on 4th January. Remember to apply this new rate when issuing VAT invoices this month. The rate change does not affect either zero-rated supplies nor those supplies subject to VAT at the 5% reduced rate.

There are special transitional arrangements for transactions which span both the old and new rates. Detailed guidance has been issued by HMRC for businesses on implementing the change. See HMRC guidance notes.

If you require advice on the changeover, please contact us, and we'll be pleased to help

Offshore Tax Drive Could Net Government £9billion

The government could enjoy a £9billion tax windfall over the next four years, due to better-than-expected returns from a clampdown on offshore tax evasion.
