Older Cars Face Higher TaxA road tax exemption for older cars has been removed, leaving thousands of road users facing a potentially increased tax liability. The government had originally included an exemption for cars registered between March 2001 and March 2006 when they implemented the top tax band for vehicles emitting over 225g of carbon dioxide per kilometre. The announcement was hidden in the Budget report, and has not been made clear until recently. The government have introduced 13 new tax bands, rendering many older high emissions cars liable for the higher rates. The exemption for cars registered before March 2001 still exists.
