StartUp Britain - Business Start-Ups Make the News at Last!

Glazers has been at the forefront of assisting new business start-ups since our Starting up in Business guide was first published in 1993. As an active promoter of this cause, we are therefore delighted to see a new initiative make the headlines.

StartUp Britain, launched on 28 March, describes itself as “a new campaign by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs” and is backed by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Blackberry, Google, Microsoft and Virgin Media are among more than 60 big name brands backing this new private sector initiative designed to help Britain’s newest businesses.

It aims to champion the 270,000 businesses that start up in the UK each year with pledges of services and benefits including advertising and marketing, office space, broadband internet, finance and mentoring.

In total, StartUp Britain will deliver a benefit package representing a total value of more than £1,500 for every start-up company in Britain.

Pledges of support include Microsoft training 5,000 start-ups in how to use technology to drive their business and marketing activities and PayPal offering three months free of fees for new accounts when they sign up to a Powa.com website
Mr Cameron said: “We put out a call to business to rise up and help us drive the recovery and StartUp Britain is part of the answer to that call.

“That’s what’s really exciting about this. The people best placed to help business are the people who do business.”

Key to the StartUp Britain campaign is a web portal that will bring together in one place the wide range of existing resources for new businesses and enable them to access the package of support pledged to StartUp Britain by its supporting brands.

Meanwhile, Glazers continues to offer business start-up support to new businesses by way of free initial meetings and the free start-up guide (available as a booklet or download).
