Glazers in the CommunityBusiness enterprise day for school pupilsBernice Rubenstein, Glazers’ Marketing Manager and Leanne Leigh, Glazers’ Director of Strategy were recently invited by Barnet Education Business Partnership to act as facilitators at a “Partners in Enterprise” day at a local school in Finchley. It was the role of the facilitator to guide groups of 14/15 year old pupils to develop an enterprise idea using Fairtrade principles and assist them with funding, production, importation and marketing issues. The facilitator also helped to build trust within the team in order to enhance communication between group members and to manage any conflicts that arose. This day was of enormous benefit to pupils as it helped give them an insight into the world of work, by using team building, negotiation and communication skills. A whole variety of products and services were thought up by the groups, including cotton underwear, football T-shirts representing third world countries, help and advice for farmers using tractors in the third world and Fairtrade holidays - to name a few. "The Enterprise day was so well run that it really made me think that the products the children chose to produce could realistically be brought to market in the real world” says Bernice. |
