Tax Manager

We are looking to recruit an experienced, qualified individual to take on the responsibilities of tax manager, with a bias towards personal tax.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for running our mixed tax department and will work closely with our partners, especially our tax partner, who is mainly corporate tax biased.

You will need a sound knowledge of Estate and Trust tax matters, and also be familiar with overseas aspects of UK tax. A reasonable working knowledge of UK corporation tax is required and knowledge of VAT matters will be an advantage, but is not essential. Knowledge of CCH tax software will also be an advantage.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overall management of our tax department, reporting to our tax partner;
  • Monitoring and organising the flow of self-assessment tax returns;
  • Technical supervision of work produced in our tax department;
  • Management of tax staff;
  • Induction and training of tax staff;
  • Involvement in strategic development of our tax department;
  • Hands-on personal tax compliance work;
  • Dealing with complex personal tax cases and Revenue enquiries;
  • Advising and meeting clients and potential clients;
  • Estate and trust tax work;
  • Expatriate tax consultancy and compliance;
  • Advising on CGT and IHT matters.

Market salary will be paid according to experience and qualifications, and the position comes with genuine partnership prospects if the successful candidate has ambitions in that direction.

Tax Supervisor

We currently have an opening for an enthusiastic and ambitious tax supervisor. The role will suit someone with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the tax department of a well-organised accountancy practice, and who is looking to move towards a tax manager position in the future, and maybe beyond that.

Working with our partners, and in particular our tax partner, as well as our team of tax seniors and semi-seniors, the role will include:

  • Assisting the partner (and if applicable, the tax manager) in charge of the department in the overall smooth running of the department;
  • Supervising and training team members within the department;
  • Planning compliance work and facilitating the work schedules of tax staff;
  • Reviewing and dealing with tax compliance work, ready for submission to HMRC;
  • Where relevant, dealing with Capital Gains, Trust and Inheritance Tax and assisting the partners (and tax manager if applicable) in ensuring that the best advice is tailored for each individual client;
  • Dealing with complex tax and tax planning issues for the firm’s clients;
  • Assisting the partners (and tax manager where applicable) in the marketing and further development of the firm’s tax services;
  • Developing client and intermediary relationships, facilitating delivery of deadlines and handling day to day queries;
  • Utilising interpersonal skills and interaction with the tax team, other staff members and partners;
  • Ensuring the delivery of a prompt, helpful and professional service to clients;
  • Co-operating with partners and other departments for the overall effective and efficient performance of the firm.

Audit and Accounts Senior or Semi-Senior

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our growing Audit and Accounts department. You will need to be currently (or recently) working in practice and ideally be recently ACA or ACCA qualified or part qualified.

As part of a team, you will be working on a diverse portfolio of clients, supporting more senior members of the team or reporting directly to a partner on certain assignments. You will have experience of carrying out audit fieldwork and supervising and training junior members of the team. You will also have some experience of planning and finalisation of audit assignments. The role will also involve the provision of accounting services and involvement in ad hoc, one-off assignments on a wide range of clients.

The role will be client-facing and as well as being office-based, will involve client visits, and therefore you must have strong communication and people skills. Good organisational skills are also a requirement.

The successful candidate is expected to have good technical knowledge of auditing and accounting standards, including FRS 102. Experience with CCH Accounts Production would be useful but is not essential.

Salary will be based on market rate and your qualifications and experience. Study support will be offered where applicable. There will also be the opportunity for long-term career progression for the right candidate as the practice is continuing to grow.
